About This Register

What is the Claims & EOT Register?

This Claims and Extension of Time (EOT) Register is a free, browser-based tool for construction contract administrators, quantity surveyors, project engineers and contractors. It provides a single register for tracking every claim, EOT request, delay notice and variation order raised on a project — from the first notice through submission, evaluation and final decision.

The register records notice dates, submission dates, evaluation dates and decision dates alongside claimed amounts, evaluated amounts, EOT days requested and EOT days granted. Summary KPI cards give an at-a-glance view of the register's financial and time position, and a formatted status report can be generated for printing or saving as PDF.

Supported Contract Forms

The register is contract-form agnostic. The Project Info dialog lets you record the governing contract form and each entry has a clause reference field so you can cite the specific sub-clause. Key clause references by contract form:

What is an Extension of Time (EOT) in construction contracts?

An Extension of Time is an adjustment to the contract completion date granted when a qualifying event — late design information, unforeseen ground conditions, force majeure, an employer instruction — delays the works beyond the contractor's control. An approved EOT relieves the contractor of liquidated damages liability for that period. Under FIDIC, EOT entitlement is in Sub-clause 8.4; under NEC, it flows through the Compensation Event procedure in clauses 61–65.

What is the difference between a claim and a variation?

A variation is a formal instruction from the employer or engineer to change the scope of work. The contractor is entitled to additional payment and time as a contractual right upon receiving the instruction. A claim is a demand for additional payment or time arising from an event alleged to be at the employer's risk but not yet formally instructed or accepted — typically requiring the contractor to give notice within a prescribed period (28 days under FIDIC 1999 Sub-clause 20.1) and then submit detailed particulars.

What is the FIDIC notice requirement for claims?

Under FIDIC 1999 Sub-clause 20.1, the contractor must give notice within 28 days of becoming aware of the event giving rise to the claim. Failure to notify within this period can result in loss of entitlement. The 2017 edition (Sub-clause 20.2) introduced a more structured procedure with 28 days for the initial notice, 84 days for fully detailed particulars, 42 days for the engineer's response, and a further 42 days for agreement or determination.

How should I record a partially approved claim?

Set the status to Partially Approved and enter the evaluated amount and EOT granted that were actually approved. Use the Notes field to record the engineer's rationale for the partial approval. If the contractor disputes the partial decision, the status can subsequently be changed to Disputed and the dispute reference noted.

Does the register save my data automatically?

Yes — with the Autosave in this browser checkbox ticked (the default), every change is written to your browser's local storage and survives page reloads. For a durable backup, use Save Project (.json) to download a JSON file and reload it with Load Project. Your data never leaves your machine — the tool has no server and makes no network requests.
